Our Philosophy on Chinese Herbal Remedies
We are an ethical, responsible supplier of Chinese herbs and Chinese herbal remedies. Through our work and our values we contribute daily to the growth and positive development of our industry. We are a bridge, fostering the exchange of concepts between China and the rest of the world. Our path is one of leadership, our goal to bring higher quality Chinese herbs and herbal products to the market with a commitment to sustainable agriculture, environmental protection and concern for species biodiversity and preservation. We promote the acceptance of traditional Chinese medicine as a valuable tool in health and support the work of those with the same goals. We strive to provide our customers with the highest degree of service and with the best quality products possible.
Animal Testing Statement
Mayway is an ethical, environmentally conscious supplier of Chinese herbal remedies. We do not support nor condone the cruel treatment of animals. We do not conduct animal testing on our products, nor do we allow others to test on our behalf. Additionally, we require our suppliers to certify that the raw materials used in the manufacture of our products are not tested on animals.
Quality Assurance and Control
Scientific testing and data serve to confirm that a product meets safety and other quality parameters. However, we believe that the essence of Chinese medicine, its power, is not something that is easily quantified. The manufacturing of traditional Chinese herbal remedies is not just a scientific process, but also an art resulting from an understanding of the nature of Chinese herbs and an experienced hand. While our products are made in carefully controlled GMP environments, much of the character and quality of the final product is based on a set of human choices: the quality of starting materials, the large and small decisions made during processing, and a commitment to quality in every aspect. The results of these choices are not always quantifiable, but the care and attention to detail in their creation can be experienced in the appearance, smell, taste, and effects of any of our products.
Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) helps ensure the quality and safety of products, traceability of ingredients, and transparency of the manufacturing process among other things. GMP certification means that the site and methods employed in the production of Mayway Chinese herbal remedies have been subject to a thorough quality control investigation by a government agency or qualified third party organization and are certified to be in compliance.
Clean room microbial testing at each of the GMP certified facilities of our manufacturing partners is an in-house lab where extensive quality control analysis is performed. Testing ranges from basic organoleptic and microscopy to higher-level analytical techniques including High Performance Thin Layer Chromotography (HP-TLC) and High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) to confirm identification, ensure potency and to test for active constituents when necessary.
In–House Quality Control
In line with Dietary Supplement GMPs, each lot received into our warehouse is first quarantined. Then each product is sampled, the Certificate of Analysis verified, and the sample is compared with past lots for consistency. Herbs are inspected using sensory protocols, and confirmed against standard references if necessary to verify quality and species.
Shelf Life and “Best Before Date”
Shelf life is the length of time that products are given before they are considered unsuitable for sale, use, or consumption. Mayway generally uses a best before date for its prepared products. We do not have “Best Before” dates on our herbs and herb powders.
Our manufacturers adhere to official Chinese Pharmacopoeia guidelines or other government sanctioned references in the making of our products. These references contain individual monographs that have been reviewed and chosen from different references across China by a scientific committee.
3rd Party Laboratory Testing
Following extensive in–house testing at the manufacturing site, heavy metal testing is routinely conducted again at third party labs to confirm results and to ensure that our rigorous standards of purity and safety are met. More sophisticated analyses, such as aristolochic acid testing and chloramphenicol testing are also conducted at third party labs.
Testing Standards and Limits
Each Mayway product has an individual product specification that outlines basic product requirements including ingredients, processing method, and quality control information. Quality control information includes applicable testing requirements and limit standards for that product.
Chinese Herbal Product and Ingredient Traceability
In addition to batch numbers assigned by the manufacturer, we assign tracking numbers to each product. This allows any product to be traced back to the starting materials. The ingredients in any prescription made in the Mayway Herbal Dispensary can be traced back to its individual batch information.
Commitment to Quality
During the past 40 years, we have been committed to providing products of the highest quality. We have carefully chosen exceptional manufacturing partners to create our products. Starting materials are tested and species verified, then processed according to strict manufacturing specifications. Extensive laboratory testing throughout the process confirms quality standards are met, and results are routinely verified by laboratory testing conducted in the US. The quality, processing and testing standards of our products are based on requirements outlined in the Pharmacopoeia of the People’s Republic of China to ensure that our products are medicine grade. Our commitment to quality in every aspect has resulted in safe, high quality products you and your patients have trusted since 1969.
Mayway is committed to using as few food additives in the preparation of our products as possible. However, we are sometimes compelled to use excipients in certain products to ensure their quality and effectiveness. Excipients are ingredients that aid in the manufacture of a quality medicinal-grade product, often facilitating optimal stability, dissolution, and absorption, and can help to form, stabilize and protect active substances. Our Chinese herbal remedies are completely vegetarian, using 100% natural, organic Chinese herbs.
Raw Material Selection
Our commitment to quality starts from the very beginning. First, we begin with the correct species and the correct herb part. All herbs, whether Plum Flower® Premier Quality™ Chinese Herbs or constituents in our Plum Flower® products, are the officially validated species as listed in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia or other government accepted Materia Medicas.
The manufacturing of a teapill begins with the decoction of a formula at a low, precisely controlled temperature. Extractors are stainless steel, vacuum-sealed chambers, and this combination of low temperature extraction and vacuum–sealed container ensures that no active ingredients or essential oils are lost when released during the decoction process.
Plum Flower® Premier Quality™ Chinese Herbs
All Plum Flower® Premier Quality™ Chinese Herbs are the officially validated species as listed in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia or other government accepted Materia Medicas. Herbs are sourced from their indigenous regions, ensuring geo-authenticity and quality, and usually come to us direct from the growers and harvesting co–ops. Upon receipt, each herb is inspected to ensure correct species identification, proper maturity, and quality.
The manufacturing of a tablet begins with the decoction of a formula at a low, precisely controlled temperature. Extractors are stainless steel, vacuum-sealed chambers, and this combination of low temperature extraction and vacuum–sealed container ensures that no active ingredients or essential oils are lost when released during the decoction process.
Extract Powder Manufacturing
The manufacturing of an extract powder begins with the decoction of a single herb or formula at a low, precisely controlled temperature. Extractors are stainless steel, vacuum-sealed chambers, and this combination of low temperature extraction and vacuum–sealed container ensures that no active ingredients or essential oils are lost when released during the decoction process.
Generally, capsule products are made by compacting powders or granules into gelatin or vegetarian capsules. A fine selection of Chinese herbal supplements is available in the Plum Flower® Capsule line. All capsules used are vegetarian and the ingredients are natural yield extract powder or a combination of natural yield and standardized extracts.
Infusions are herbal extracts of single herbs or formulas manufactured similarly to extract powders, but made into a granule rather than powder. Infusions contain sugar, in amounts ranging from 7–40% depending upon the formula.
External Use Manufacturing
Mayway distributes a selection of plasters, liniments, ointments and creams. However, as we do not import these products directly, manufacturing information is limited to what is printed on or contained with the product itself.
